Mostafa O. El-Refai, is an interventional cardiologist. Born and raised in Louisville, Kentucky, he attended medical school at Ain Shams University in Cairo, Egypt, in order to attend their seven year medical school and gain a unique medical experience. Dr. El-Refai returned to the United States for his internal medicine residency at Henry Ford Hospital, where he was elected Chief Medical Resident. He completed his cardiology and interventional cardiology fellowships at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas. He served as the Chief Interventional Cardiology fellow. He has been recognized with several awards and honors, most recently, the Baylor College of Medicine Drs. Richard and Patricia Van Reet Award for excellence in Interventional Cardiology.
Dr. El-Refai also completed a Master of Science in Clinical Investigation Sciences from the University of Louisville School of Public Health and Information Sciences. He has several publications and presentations. His research interests focus on coronary artery disease, acute myocardial infarction, percutaneous coronary intervention, heart failure, and quality improvement and patient safety.
