I like to take a wide view when treating patients, based on what is called the biopsychosocial model. This means that in order to help a person, I have to treat their condition and its effect on the body (bio), as well as the effects on mental well-being (psychological) and the effects on those closest to them (social). Treating patients as people with complex body, mind and social needs, not just a disease, leads to the best outcomes for everyone. I also believe in the importance of multidisciplinary care and incorporate other medical specialties as needed.
