Dr Victor Y Chang was born in Princeton, New Jersey, and grew up in Tampa, Florida. He received his bachelor’s degree from Duke University in Durham, North Carolina. Following college, he dedicated two years as a professional photographer and writer, documenting the admirable work of nonprofit medical clinics in Washington, DC. Afterwards, he started his formal medical training at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas, and received his medical degree in 2006. Also at Baylor, Dr Chang completed his internal medicine internship, followed by ophthalmology residency at the Cullen Eye Institute, where he had the privilege of serving as Chief Resident.
