Dr James Brennan Spies is a professor and chair of Radiology at MedStar Georgetown University Hospital in Washington, D.C. He went to Georgetown University School of Medicine, trained in radiology at the University of California, San Francisco, and studied vascular and interventional radiology at NYU. He also earned a Master of Public Health from Johns Hopkins University. Dr Spies served four years in the U.S. Air Force, then worked in private practice before joining Georgetown in 1997. He became chair of Radiology in 2005. He is an expert in uterine embolization for fibroids, with over 100 studies published. He also studies treatments for prostate issues and is a leader in his field worldwide.
