Dr. Shutran is a board-certified neurosurgeon who specializes in the care of patients with vascular problems in the brain and spine using both endovascular (minimally invasive) and open surgical techniques. He also has an interest in other neurosurgical conditions including brain and spine tumors, Chiari malformations, hydrocephalus, trigeminal neuralgia, hemifacial spasm, and degenerative spine conditions. He completed his neurosurgery residency at Tufts Medical Center. He subsequently completed a fellowship in cerebrovascular and endovascular neurosurgery at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, where he also served as an attending physician and Instructor in Neurosurgery at Harvard Medical School. He is currently an Assistant Professor of Neurosurgery at Columbia University Irving Medical Center. His passion for cerebrovascular disease took root early in residency when he witnessed how excellent quality care can make a difference in the lives of patients with aneurysms, vascular malformations, and stroke. He believes that having a broad training background allows him to counsel patients on the best treatment options and alternatives. Outside of medicine, he is an avid runner and also enjoys playing jazz piano and reading.
