Dr. Larsen is a Professor, Division of Pediatric Critical Care at the University of Utah; Patient Safety Officer at Intermountain Primary Children’s Hospital (PCH), co-chair of PCH Medication Safety Team, and Edward B. Clark Endowed Chair II for Pediatric Patient Safety. Dr. Larsen has local and national recognition for her patient safety work since 2001 and is a member in good standing with the American Academy of Pediatrics and Society of Critical Care Medicine. She has published articles focused on patient adverse events, medication safety, safety culture, and early septic shock recognition and treatment. Her team was recognized by the Institute of Safe Medication Practices and by the Pediatric Pharmacy Advocacy Group for projects improving medication safety and was an invited speaker for the American Academy of Pediatrics 2011 and 2013 National Conference on medication safety. Dr. Larsen began the Primary Children’s Hospital pediatric septic shock recognition program in 2007 and has published articles on the benefits of early septic shock recognition and treatment since then, including one of the first pediatric emergency department-based projects (Pediatrics). She represents PCH at a national level working with the Children’s Hospital Association (CHA) programs for 1) Improving Pediatric Sepsis Outcome (IPSO) since 2016 as a member of the steering committee and co-lead of the interventions group; 2) CHA Solutions for Patient Safety Hospital Acquired Condition prevention and culture change; and 3) with the Child Health Patient Safety Organization focused on reducing patient harm events. Dr. Larsen has participated in CDC-sponsored collaboratives focused on ventilator-associated conditions, acute flaccid myelitis, and plague antibiotic prophylaxis and treatment. In addition, Dr. Larsen has a full time pediatric critical care practice.
