Dr Patel is currently Chair of the Department of Anesthesiology and Critical Care. Dr Patel graduated from Cornell University with a degree in Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering. She went on to the Massachusetts Institute of Technology to obtain a Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering. It was during graduate school she decided to pivot to medicine and completed a Bioengineering Research Fellowship at the National Institutes of Health in 2004. She went on to Emory University School of Medicine where she received her MD degree in 2008. Dr Patel completed her residency in the Department of Anesthesiology at the University of Florida in Gainesville, FL where she won the prestigious Chairman's Award during her final year, 2012.
