Hensley began his career in the early 1990s as an Infantryman in the U.S. Army Ranger Regiment. In the early 2000s, he was a Battalion Physician Assistant where he administered care on the battlefield to wounded soldiers and civilians in combat during Operation Iraqi Freedom.
