About Dr. Koscielski
Matthew Koscielski, MD, became interested in a career in medicine because of his father, a family physician. “I watched how he cared for his patients and the amount of time and devotion he took to help people through their illnesses,” he says.
Dr. Koscielski studied at the University of Notre Dame and then at the IU School of Medicine. While doing his residency at St. Vincent Hospital, Indianapolis, he was exposed to Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine. “I became interested in this field during my Internal Medicine training while working with a mentor within the ICU at St. Vincent’s Hospital, Indy,” he says.
Today, he uses his training to help patients manage asthma, COPD, lung cancer, pulmonary fibrosis. He is the Medical Director of the Intensive Care Unit and provides care for those patients. His philosophy and approach to care is to take the time to sit and listen to patients and really understand what they are telling him. This provides him with the information to treat them properly, whether that is finding the right diagnostic study, ordering a needed medication, or pursing certain interventions. Like his father, his patients can be confident that he is available to help them whenever he is needed to address a medical concern.
Dr. Koscielski chose Beacon for numerous reasons. Its leadership and growth as a regional referral center appealed to him, as well as the Level II Trauma Center, and commitment of providing exceptional quality care to patients.
