I chose family medicine because I wanted to be a well-rounded provider. I wanted to put my knowledge from school to use, whether it's women's health or pediatrics or geriatrics or mental health. I wanted to be that point of contact who patients feel comfortable with. I see patients at all stages of life, from newborn all the way up until geriatrics. I enjoy seeing all of them. It's important to feel comfortable with your provider and trust them with your children, your parents and yourself. The most important skill a primary care provider can have is listening, being able hear people's concerns from start to finish. It?s something all providers need ? it makes patients comfortable and helps you form lasting relationships. I suggest all patients participate in preventive medicine, like mammograms, colonoscopies or vaccinations. These truly do save lives. So sit down and have an honest conversation with your provider.
