Dr. Neera Gupta, MD, MAS, a physician-scientist, is Director of Research, Pediatric Inflammatory Bowel Disease Center, and Associate Core Director, CTSC Clinical and Translational Resource Unit, at Weill Cornell Medicine. She is recognized as a New York Super Doctor and Healio Gastroenterology 200 Leading Innovator in the Field of Gastroenterology and Hepatology.Among her research endeavors, Dr. Gupta is the Principal Investigator (PI) for a multicenter study examining sex differences in growth impairment in pediatric patients with Crohn’s disease (Growth Study).  Dr. Gupta received an award for greater than $3 million dollars to fund this study from the Eunice Kennedy Shriver National Institute of Child Health and Human Development (NICHD)/National Institutes of Health (NIH). For additional information, search #GrowthStudy.Dr. Gupta is the Physician Leader for New York-Presbyterian Phyllis and David Komansky Center for Children's Health/Weill Cornell Medical Center Site’s participation in ImproveCareNow.  The purpose of ImproveCareNow is to transform the health, care and costs for all children and adolescents with Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis by building a sustainable collaborative chronic care network.Dr. Gupta’s clinical expertise includes all aspects of pediatric gastroenterology.  She has a particular interest in inflammatory bowel disease (Crohn’s disease, ulcerative colitis, IBD-Unspecified). Prior to Weill Cornell, Dr. Gupta served on faculty at UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital and Morgan Stanley Children’s Hospital/Columbia University Medical Center.  Dr. Gupta received her MD degree from Tufts University School of Medicine and completed a residency in pediatrics at the Floating Hospital for Children at Tufts Medical Center. This was followed by a fellowship in pediatric gastroenterology, hepatology and nutrition at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF). During this time, she completed a Masters of Advanced Studies (MAS) degree in Clinical Research at UCSF.  Dr. Gupta completed her undergraduate studies at Cornell University (she graduated with Honors in Nutritional Sciences) and has now come full circle as a faculty member at Weill Cornell Medicine in the Division of Pediatric Gastroenterology and Nutrition.  Dr. Gupta is especially interested in enhancing our understanding of the underlying mechanisms of growth impairment in inflammatory bowel disease, with the hope of improving the care we provide to our patients.  In addition, she studies natural history, outcomes, and risk factors for severe disease in inflammatory bowel disease. Dr. Gupta has received grants from the Eunice Kennedy Shriver National Institute of Child Health and Human Development (NICHD)/National Institutes of Health (NIH), National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK)/NIH, the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation of America (CCFA), and the North American Society for Pediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology, and Nutrition (NASPGHAN) Foundation to support her research. Among her honors, Dr. Gupta serves as Co-Chair for the CCFA Pediatric Affairs Committee and member of the CCFA National Scientific Advisory Committee, the CCFA Partners Project Selection Committee, and the Society for Pediatric Research. Dr. Gupta serves on the Data and Safety Monitoring Board for the Chronic Pancreatitis, Diabetes and Pancreatic Cancer consortium, established by The National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK) and the National Cancer Institute (NCI). She served as the Chair for the North American Society for Pediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology, and Nutrition (NASPGHAN) Research Committee. She represented NASPGHAN on three visits to the NIH to discuss NASPGHAN’s research priorities and learn more about NIH’s research priorities. Dr. Gupta has been elected to the Society for Pediatric Research Council position representing Gastroenterology/Nutrition for a three-year term (2017-2020).  She participates on the Editorial Board for the journal, Inflammatory Bowel Diseases, and reviews manuscripts for several journals. She is also a member of the American Gastroenterological Association.  Dr. Gupta conceived of the annual Pediatric IBD Research Day meetings.
