Dr Bruner completed his undergraduate work at the University of Nebraska, and received his MD degree from the University of Nebraska Medical Center. He performed an internship and residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at letterman Army Medical Center in San Francisco, California, and a fellowship in Maternal-Fetal Medicine at the Hospital at The University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia. Dr Bruner was Director of Fetal Diagnosis & Therapy at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, Tennessee. He and his group were the first to repair spina bifida in utero, the first to place a standard shunt for isolated hydrocephalus in utero, and performed the first amniotic fluid exchange in the United States.
