Why I chose to pursue a career in healthcare: Growing up in Liberia, I became very familiar with healthcare disparities and the impact on people and communities. On countless occasions, I helplessly witnessed loved ones suffer due to lack of proper health care during my upbringing. I made it my mission to improve healthcare by becoming a licensed practical nurse, a mental health counselor, a registered nurse, and now a family nurse practitioner. I chose family medicine which would enable me to care for patients of all ages, promote preventative health, and further increase access to healthcare in underserved communities.
