Charis Taylor provides primary care for adults in Columbia, South Carolina where she was born and raised. After graduating from Ben Lippen School, Charis studied biology and medical humanities at the Honors College of the University of South Carolina. Her research involved increasing iron uptake in plants in an effort to address the issue of iron deficiency anemia in places that have iron-poor diets. Charis attended the University of South Carolina School of Medicine, enjoying all of her clinical rotations. This solidified her love for providing thorough, relationship-centered multidisciplinary primary care to improve the quality of life for her patients. Her research during medical school reviewed the implementation of physical activity in older populations for fall prevention and improvement of quality of life. After completing her residency in internal medicine at Wake Forest University, she was selected to serve as the ambulatory care chief resident and the assistant chief of medicine, supervising and teaching medical students and residents. Charis has translated her love for teaching students to an opportunity to teach her patients about their health, whether discussing a healthy lifestyle and diet or explaining their disease process. Charis manages chronic diseases such as diabetes and hypertension, as well as acute illness and injuries, and preventive health and wellness. She also has a niche in women’s health and mental health.
Charis is board-certified in internal medicine. Awards include: - The Donald W. Reynolds Foundation Award, in recognition of exceptional achievement in the care of older adults (presented by Wake Forest University School of Medicine) - The S. Bryant Kendrick Memorial Award, recognizing a house officer for excellence in primary care internal medicine, 2009 (presented by Wake Forest University School of Medicine) - Saunders Humanism Honor Society (presented by UofSC School of Medicine)
In her free time, Charis enjoys spending time with her husband, Donald, and their 4 children. She loves to travel, hike, and read. She led a medical relief trip to Ukraine in 2021 and participated in medical relief trips in both Nicaragua and Taiwan.
