My review reflects the experience I just had with Dr. Bashir. To be honest, from a clinical standpoint, he’s not a bad Doctor. From a customer service standpoint, the young man has much to learn. Today, I had a 4:20 appointment. Traffic was bad so I unfortunately showed up at 4:38. I know the exact time because my wife called while I was speaking to the receptionist. The reason for my late arrival was bad rush hour traffic. Every route I tried to take seemed to just add up. With that, I will stress that I tried to call to see if I should still show up but their answering service informed me that they couldn’t get through to Dr. Bashir’s office. This was confirmed by the receptionist who told me they were having phone problems. Two other relevant points are that I have never been late for an appointment prior and I’ve waited for Dr. Bashir every time I’ve had an appointment. On my last appointment, I waited for 20 minutes (ironic as my arrival was 18-minutes late today). Dr. Bashir walked into the room I was waiting in and began to read me the riot act. He spoke in a very condescending tone as he told me that it is unacceptable for his patients to be late and something that will not be tolerated. He informed me that this is the only time he will allow it and only because he had another patient who didn’t show up…otherwise, he would have had his receptionist send me away. I then tried to inform him why I was late (that Chicago rush hour traffic is unfortunately unpredictable) and that I tried to call but his service couldn’t get through because his phones were not working. His only response was that his patients need to understand his policy. He was clearly aggravated but then tried to shift to the appointment by asking how I was feeling. I told him was actually feeling a bit angry at the moment because of the way he was talking to me. He then pulled his chair back, looked at me and informed me that if I didn’t like it, I could find another Doctor. I say with all sincerity that, up until that point, I did not raise my voice and was calm in my approach. Frankly, that changed as I took him up on the offer. Again, he’s not a bad clinical doctor but apparently has not reached a point in his career where he appreciates the customers under his care. Maybe he’ll learn a bit of a lesson today because he didn’t lose one patient, he lost 4 (as we’ll be looking for a new doctor for our entire family).
