About
Arthur Carminucci
Arthur Carminucci, MD is part of Summit Health’s Spine Surgery team. Dr. Carminucci treats degenerative conditions of the spine, neck and back pain, sciatica, herniated discs, spinal stenosis, spondylolisthesis, spine fracturess, and spine tumors using various techniques, including decompressive laminectomy, microdiscectomies, and instrumented spinal fusion. He believes in a conservative approach to patient care saying, “If and only if all conservative treatment options have failed, should surgery be considered. If surgery is deemed necessary, I utilize state-of-the-art techniques to provide the safest and least invasive treatment tailored to the patient based on his or her symptomatology, activity, and post-surgery functional goals.”
Dr. Carminucci’s clinical expertise also covers a broad spectrum of neurosurgery, including specialized training in the treatment of brain tumors and minimally invasive endoscopic techniques for the treatment of pituitary tumors. Additional advanced training includes the use of awake craniotomies and motor mapping for brain tumors located in eloquent areas, image-guided stereotactic techniques such as minimally invasive Laser Interstitial Therapy, and stereotactic radiosurgery to treat brain and pituitary tumors. He also treats neurological pain disorders using spinal cord stimulation as well as surgical and radiosurgical treatment of trigeminal neuralgia.
“I strongly believe in a patient first approach and am dedicated to giving my patients my undivided attention, compassion and expertise. Being able to help patients overcome their illness is the most satisfying aspect of my job,” says Dr. Carminucci.
Dr. Carminucci completed his undergraduate studies at The College of New Jersey. During that time, he developed a fascination with the human brain through his studies of the central nervous system. He then attended medical school at Rutgers: Robert Wood Johnson Medical School where he was drawn to neurosurgery, in particular surgical and non-surgical care, the developing technologies in the field, and the ability to help patients through compassionate care. He went on to complete Neurosurgical Residency training at Rutgers: New Jersey Medical School. During his residency training, he completed a focused research year in the laboratory studying translational therapies for the treatment of brain tumors.
He has participated in numerous research studies in the area of brain tumors and spine surgery and has been published in a variety of journals including, The Journal of Neurosurgery, Neurosurgery, and Journal of Neuro-Oncology. He has presented on the national and international level and in 2019 was recipient of the Leksell Radiosurgery Award given by the American Association of Neurological Surgeons.
Dr. Carminucci is honored to continue his practice of neurosurgery in New Jersey where he was born and raised. When not seeing patients, Dr. Carminucci enjoys spending time with friends and family, staying physically active, and traveling.
