Dr. Jessica Hawley is a board-certified medical oncologist focused on improving the care of patients with genitourinary malignancies. She received her undergraduate degree from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Upon graduation, Dr. Hawley served as a U.S. Peace Corps Volunteer, working under the Ministry of Health in the Republic of Kiribati (Central Pacific). Dr. Hawley attended medical school at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health, where she was elected to both the Alpha Omega Alpha and the Gold Humanism Honor Societies and received several awards and scholarships for academic achievement. After residency training at Columbia University Irving Medical Center, she worked as a hospitalist at the Brigham and Women’s Hospital, and in rural Nepal as a Senior Clinical Advisor for an NGO that collaborates with the Nepali government to design and implement rural healthcare models.
Dr. Hawley worked as an assistant clinical professor and hospitalist at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA. Dr. Hawley subsequently completed her fellowship training at Columbia University Irving Medical Center, where she was appointed Chief Fellow. During that time, she was awarded a Conquer Cancer Foundation of the American Society of Clinical Oncology Young Investigator Award and received additional funding for her research through the T32 Molecular Oncology Training Award. She is currently an assistant professor of medicine in the division of hematology/oncology at Columbia University Irving Medical Center and is pursuing a Masters of Science in Patient-Oriented Research at the Mailman School of Public Health. Dr. Hawley is involved in patient care as well as clinical and translational research at the local and national levels. Her research focuses on advancing novel therapies in genitourinary malignancies and elucidating immunologic biomarkers suggestive of clinical response.
Drawing from her unique background, Dr. Hawley understands that each patient and family has specific goals, challenges, and hopes in managing their life with cancer. Working alongside a fantastic multidisciplinary team, she is dedicated to improving the lives of patients and providing compassionate care, helping patients continue to live their lives in the way that is most fulfilling and important to them. Dr. Hawley enjoys running, traveling, and reading books with her two children.
