Sue Jane Grosso-Rivas
Sue Jane Grosso-Rivas, MD serves as Medical Co-Director of Breast Imaging at Summit Health and is a Lead Interpreting Physician for the American College of Radiology and the Mammography Accreditation Program with the FDA. Dr. Grosso-Rivas also co-directs all aspects of breast imaging at Summit Health including mammography, breast ultrasound, and breast MRI.
In addition to her position at Summit Health, Dr. Grosso-Rivas is an attending radiologist at Overlook Medical Center in Summit, New Jersey. She specializes in breast imaging, digital mammography including tomosynthesis, breast ultrasound, breast magnetic resonance imaging, and interventional breast procedures. She is interested in all new technologies related to the breast and is excited about the latest technology, contrast enhanced spectral mammography (CESM), a special type of mammogram that allows for further exploration of abnormalities revealed from earlier tests. Dr. Grosso-Rivas is also a Body Imager and specializes in Nuclear Medicine, including PET (positron emission tomography).
Dr. Grosso-Rivas served as Medical Director of the Overlook Medical Center Breast Center for several years and has been an attending radiologist at Staten Island University Hospital in Staten Island, New York, and Valley Radiologist Medical Group in Northern California.
A gifted speaker, Dr. Grosso-Rivas has delivered invited community and physician presentations about breast cancer and breast imaging for the American Cancer Society and International Institute of Continuing Medical Education, among others. She appeared on several radio and cable television broadcasts for breast cancer awareness as well as the American Cancer Society Breast Cancer Awareness program. Dr. Grosso-Rivas is a member of the Society for Breast Imaging, American College of Radiology, and Radiological Society of North America. She is Former President of Curémonos, a community-based organization that helps, guides, and educates medically underserved women with breast cancer in our area.
To her credit, Dr. Grosso-Rivas is former Chairperson for Making Strides Against Breast Cancer in Staten Island and former Vice President of First Saturday in October, Inc., a nonprofit organization that provides breast health awareness for the Hispanic community and other underserved women in the boroughs of New York City.
Dr. Grosso-Rivas is a recipient of the American Cancer Society Annual Award for Community Service and she has been an honoree for the American Cancer Society Sword of Hope Charity Ball, Latino Civic Association, and Staten Island Borough Hall.
Dr. Grosso-Rivas has been recognized several years by Castle Connolly as a “Top Doctor in Women’s Health” and a “Top Doctor for Cancer” with mentions in Jersey’s Best Magazine and New York Magazine. She was also included in the listing of “Exceptional Women in Medicine” for 2020 and 2021.
Dr. Grosso-Rivas is passionate about breast health and delivering the latest technology with high-quality breast imaging to the community. With her many years of experience in the field and her leadership positions she hopes to ensure that every woman in our community receives the best breast health care.
When she is not working with patients, she enjoys time with her family and friends. For fitness she loves to dance to Latin music especially at a great Zumba class.
