Over a period from approximately 2009 to 2021 I had been a patient of Dr. Frempong-Boadu; during that time he performed three surgeries on me, one disc and two fusions. I have always considered him an extremely skilled spinal surgeon. However, it was apparent after the third surgery (second fusion), much had changed. He had become entirely engrossed in "mechanics" as opposed to the patient. He did not see me in the OR prior to being anesthetized; during several horrific weeks in the hospital, he failed to come to see me, all post op care was left up to his chief resident. Dr. Frempong-Boadu never returned my wife's calls or messages during my hospitalization nor did he return her or my calls once released (with no medications for pain or directions). He finally spoke to us approximately one week later only after I threatened to go to the NYT and relate the poor/non-existent care he was providing. His excuses seemed to be his new MO: never got the messages, his residents responded, other doctors were at fault for the consideral problems, he doesn't prescribe the needed medications, etc. In 2023 I had a third fusion at NYU with a different surgeon. Not only did the surgery and post op period go smoothly, but I saw this surgeon and his residents daily while hospitalized; directions, medications, follow up could not have been clearer; this doctor was also a talented surgeon but cared about the patient (as did his office staff as opposed to office of Dr. Frempong-Boadu which simply refused to be of any assistance). Interestingly, while in the neurosurgery unit during the post op hospitalization, the care I received was fantastic and personalized; much had to do with the fact that the house staff knew of my previous problems with Dr. Frempong-Boadu and several individuals said they knew who he was but had never seen him on the floor! I no longer recommend Dr. Frempong-Boadu as I had in the past; patients deserve a physician who is concerned about their well being more than trying to enhance their own image.
