Why I chose to pursue a career in healthcare: I come from a family of physicians and from a young age I felt a calling to the profession. I was drawn to fill the role of the physician who brought calm to the chaos and unknown of being sick. What is scarier than not being able to breathe, being worried you have cancer, or being so sick that you need to be in the intensive care unit? I was drawn to try to help the people when they were the most sick and most afraid. During my training I felt my talents were best applied in the intensive care unit and in pulmonary medicine.
