Why I chose to pursue a career in healthcare: My mother was a pathologist who was the first woman physician in her family. While growing up, I was very impressed by her dedication to the profession. As a child I missed her presence at home but was glad that she was doing something good for others, which I did not yet fully understand. I decided to accept the challenge of going through medical school and residency because I thought I could make a positive change in other people's lives. My father had inculcated in me the idea, that you should leave the world a better place by your presence like the great people in history. He used to talk about Washington, Lincoln, Gandhi and other great leaders.
