Why I chose to pursue a career in healthcare: I was a critical care nurse for more than 20 years at Chambersburg Hospital, but I saw critical care as being on one extreme of the health care continuum dealing with the severe consequences of disease and illness. I wanted to be more on the front end of this and deal with chronic health conditions in the preventative/management stages. Critical care is very labor intensive with long hours and it is physically, mentally and emotionally draining. I knew I could not retire from that position. I have always wanted to pursue my Master's degree in Nursing and NP seemed like a perfect fit for my goals as a nurse.
