Dr. Thirumala received his medical degree from Madras Medical College in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India, and the University of Illinois at Chicago. He completed a residency at the Wayne State University Health Center in Detroit, Michigan. He furthered his training with a fellowship at the Memorial Sloan Kettering Hospital and Lenox Hill Hospital, both in New York City. He speaks English and Telugu.

Dr. Thirumala is director of respiratory/pulmonary function lab and bronchoscopy at AHN West Penn Hospital. He helps patients manage COPD and treats pulmonary nodules, sarcoidosis, and lung cancer.
