Dr. Thai is a highly respected transplant surgeon specializing in liver, abdominal, kidney, and pancreas transplantation. With more than 20 years of experience, he performs state-of-the-art hepatobiliary surgery and minimally invasive laparoscopic liver surgery. Dr. Thai also is System Director of AHN Center for Abdominal Transplantation and an Associate Professor at Temple University School of Medicine.
Certified by the American Board of Surgery, Dr. Thai earned his degrees at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. After completing his residency at Strong Memorial Hospital at the University of Rochester (Rochester, NY), he was a Clinical Fellow in Transplantation Surgery at the Thomas E. Starzl Transplantation Institute in Pittsburgh, Pa.
Dr. Thai is a member of the American Society of Transplant Surgeons. He serves on the Board of Trustees for Transplant Recipient International Organization (TRIO), reviews abstracts for American Transplant Congress, and participates on the Medical and Transplant Advisory Committee for the Center for Organ Recovery and Education (CORE).
During his career, Dr. Thai wrote more than 40 articles and taught “Surgery for Engineers” at Carnegie Mellon University. He has received numerous research grants for transplantation, the most recent from DSF Charitable Foundation to study mechanisms of diabetes in pancreas transplantation. Dr. Thai was named one of Pittsburgh Magazine's "Best Doctors" in 2019.
He has medical staff privileges at Allegheny General Hospital and West Penn Hospital.
