Ashlea Semmens, M.D. is a board-certified general surgeon and breast surgical oncologist and the medical director of the Breast Surgery program at Monument Health Rapid City Hospital. She is a native of eastern Montana and received her undergraduate degree in Biology from the University of Montana in Missoula. She then attended medical school at the University of Washington School of Medicine as part of the WWAMI program, completing rotations in Montana, Washington, and Alaska. Following this, she moved to Iowa to complete her general surgery residency at Iowa Methodist Medical Center before moving to Memphis for her Breast Surgical Oncology Fellowship.
Dr. Semmens approaches her work with the philosophy of treating each patient individually. She advocates for her patients and uses a shared decision-making method to treat each individual patient based on their personal and specific breast cancer needs. She enjoys treating a wide spectrum of conditions including benign breast disease, acute breast problems (such as abscess or cellulitis), patients who are at elevated risk of developing breast cancer, and those who have been diagnosed with breast cancer. She cares for patients through all aspects of their breast cancer journey from diagnosis to surgery to survivorship.
Dr. Semmens and her husband have two daughters and two golden retrievers which keeps life busy. In her spare time, she enjoys outdoor activities with her family as well as cooking/baking and quilting.
