Patrick M. McCarthy, MD is the chief of cardiac surgery at Northwestern Medicine and executive director of Bluhm Cardiovascular Institute. He has performed more than 11,000 heart operations, and currently over 80 percent involve heart valve surgery and/or atrial fibrillation surgery. Dr. McCarthy has achieved national and international recognition in the fields of complex adult cardiac surgery, including valve repair and replacement and atrial fibrillation. He is the Heller-Sacks Professor of Cardiothoracic Surgery at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine.
