Prenatal massage is similar to Swedish massage - it aims to relax tense muscles, ease sore spots, improve circulation and mobility, and just makes you feel good. Prenatal massage is special because it is customized to meet the needs of pregnant women and their changing bodies. I am certified and trained in neonatal, pediatric, prenatal and postpartum massage. I will always adjust my techniques accordingly. Carrying a baby inside of you changes your center of gravity and puts a lot of stress on your back, neck, abdominal muscles, and shoulders. Pregnancy relaxes your ligaments, meaning your pelvic joints are less stable, and it also changes your posture, pulling your pelvis forward.
Prenatal and Postpartum massage is a safe and relaxing way to relieve pregnancy's common discomforts like backaches, carpal-tunnel syndrome, leg cramps and shakes, headaches, heartburn, fatigue, hemorrhoids, nasal congestion, sciatica and shortness of breath. Regular prenatal massage helps prepare you for labor by making the pelvis more supple. Postpartum massage reshapes and adds definition to your body. Massage should be nuturing, warm and inviting.
