He completed four fellowships, including two in minimally invasive surgery, surgical oncology and surgical critical care. Dr. Wang’s extensive background reflects his intense passion for offering patients only the very best care. “My job as a surgeon is to be a sponge—to absorb, learn and grow,” he says. “I’ve been exposed to a wide variety of techniques, and I’ve incorporated them all along the way.” He enjoys figuring out solutions for the most complex cases and continuing to build his knowledge for every future procedure. Dr. Wang is one of only a few surgeons at Northwell who can treat right-sided colon cancers by using a suprapubic approach, which leaves no visible incision on the patient’s abdomen, offering better cosmetic outcomes. He has trained his surgical partners on the approach as well, noting the importance of working together as a team and sharing knowledge. “Each member of my surgical team brings a different set of experiences to the table,” he says. “For our most complex cases, two sets of eyes and four hands is better than one set and two hands.” Dr. Wang sees this group effort as vital to the patient’s care and experience, which are his topmost priorities. “When you see a patient doing well after a successful operation, that’s better than doing the operation itself,” Dr. Wang says. “It’s the most satisfying feeling in the world.”
