Michael Schwartz
Michael J Schwartz, MD is the Chief of Urology at Long Island Jewish Medical Center and VP for Urology in Northwell Health's Central Region. He also servers Director of Robotic and Laparoscopic Surgery for the Smith Institute of Urology at Northwell. He specializes in minimally invasive procedures for the treatment of prostate cancer, with a focus on robotic-assisted radical prostatectomy. With a constant focus on optimizing outcomes, Dr. Schwartz has refined robotic surgical techniques to minimize treatment-related side effects and also focal ablation therapies when feasible using advanced image guidance and tissue ablation to eradicate prostate cancer with minimal side effects. With expertise in urologic oncology, Dr. Schwartz is skilled in the surgical treatment of prostate, kidney, bladder, adrenal, and testicular cancers. He earned his medical degree from the Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University and completed his residency in urology at New York-Presbyterian Hospital, Cornell. Dr. Schwartz further specialized in advanced laparoscopic and endoscopic surgery through a fellowship at North Shore University Hospital and Long Island Jewish Medical Center.Dr. Schwartz takes a team-based approach to patient care, working closely with radiologists, pathologists, and medical oncologists to develop personalized, evidence-based treatment plans. He believes in actively listening to patients to understand their unique goals and preferences. In addition to treating prostate cancer, Dr. Schwartz is a pioneer in prostate cancer diagnosis, utilizing the transperineal biopsy method to minimize infection risks.A dedicated researcher, Dr. Schwartz focuses on diagnostics and treatment of prostate cancer. He is involved in several clinical trials for focal therapy and is a member of the American Urological Association and Society of Urologic Oncology. Dr. Schwartz also served previously a Residency Program Director for Urology at the Donald and Barbara Zucker School of Medicine at Hofstra/Northwell.Giving importance to establishing meaningful connections with his patients, Dr. Schwartz finds inspiration in their experiences.
