About

Dr. Bruce Levine, Board-Certified Clinical Psychologist

Dr. Levine is one of the very few Board-Certified Clinical Psychologists in LA. He is also a Clinical Psychologist at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA. Before moving to LA in 2011, he was Chief of the Psychology Department at a large hospital in NY & served as a Clinical Psychologist for the hit TV series "Hoarders" on the A&E Television Network. Dr. Levine has the added extremely unusual distinction of having served as a member of the Editorial Board of the well-respected scientific publication The Journal of Behavior Therapy & Experimental Psychiatry
You should understand the difference between a licensed "Psychologist" and a "therapist" or "counselor." To see if your PSYCHOLOGIST is "Board-Certified in Clinical Psychology" by ABPP (as is Dr. Levine) check: www.abpp.org to learn why it is important. Within a 5-mile radius of zip code 90210 there are literally hundreds of psychotherapists. But unfortunately, there are only 12 Board-Certified Clinical Psychologists among them.
After earning a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology at Hofstra University in NY (an APA-Accredited Program, unlike a number of programs from which some psychologists have graduated), he completed a 2-year Post-Doctoral Felllowship in cognitive-behavior therapy at the prestigious Temple University Medical School in Philadelphia. Completing hospital-based post-doctoral fellowship training is NOT required to become a licensed psychologist in the State of California. Therefore, as you might guess, very few licensed psychologists (and virtually none of the other types of "therapists") have completed such advanced training. Dr. Levine is the exception.
He specializes in anxiety, panic, depression, relationship, pain, stress, OCD and post-traumatic disorders, plus social, sexual, interpersonal, marital, sleep and assertiveness problems.

I rarely write reviews, but I must say that my visits with this doctor were so helpful I thought I should comment. The best words to describe him are: caring, thoughtful, smart and compassionate. He is clearly very experienced and qualified, plus he is always reachable since he answers his phone himself!
