As a Licensed Clinical Social Worker who has worked in Hampton Roads, Virginia since 1998, I'm successful in helping adults and teens resolve a variety of problems, including anxiety, depression and psychological trauma. My expertise is treating Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). Most current treatment approaches to psychological trauma and PTSD define success simply as "a reduction in symptoms." My goal, however, is to eliminate trauma symptoms, and I'm generally able to accomplish this in 10-15 counseling sessions. During my career, I've helped hundreds of individuals who were experiencing psychological trauma and PTSD. My experience includes five years at Naval Station Norfolk's Fleet and Family Services Center (FFSC), where I specialized in trauma counseling for service members and their families. I've also worked extensively with public safety personnel (police, fire fighters and EMTs) and am certified in Virginia as a Critical Incident Stress Debriefer (CISD). In addition to my counseling private practice, I've worked in a variety of settings, including an Employee Assistance Program and a community mental health program, so I'm very familiar with other resources available in our area.
ServicesI use 75 minutes sessions (30 minutes longer than traditional 45 minute sessions) to help people struggling with the "emotional fallout" of trauma or PTSD regain control of their lives more rapidly. My clients include people who have been physically abused or sexually molested (focus on male victims of childhood molestation), victims of crime or domestic violence, people involved in vehicle accidents, and Iraq and Afghanistan veterans. Many of my clients work in the military, law enforcement and public safety. I have helped hundreds of people eliminate nightmares, guilt, anxiety, depression, and feelings of worthlessness associated with trauma and PTSD. I have been EMDR Level II certified since 2000. By combining aspects of EMDR, Cognitive Processing Therapy and Solution Focused Therapy I have developed a treatment approach that incorporates your strengths and experiences into a counseling process which focuses on you regaining control of your life. To insure the highest level of anonymity and confidentiality all services are self-pay. Using your insurance creates a permanent record of your treatment, which can be accessed by both current and future employers. This record could prove detrimental to people in the military, law enforcement or needing security clearances.Additional ServicesTrauma and PTSD
