About

Kristin Babigian, Psy.D.

The only constant in life is change. Life transitions are always occurring and we are always progressing through a process of growth and learning. Crises are times of intensified changes, often marked by an external shift: departures, moves, job changes, illness, marriage, divorce, death, birth. My belief is that growth and change usually occur when the cycle of old patterns of behavior cease to work. It becomes important to break down old patterns in order to incorporate new knowledge and expanded forms of thought and behavior. This is the crux of change as I see it. By exploring the images we hold, the actions we take, and our subtle communications and interactions with our environment, we can discover how we influence what happens to us. We can see that changes in external situations reflect inner attitudes and changes. To the extent that we become conscious of this complex process and make choices about our participation, we can transcend conditioning from our past. We can re-create our lives and realities. When you inquire deeply into what gives you the greatest amount of satisfaction and happiness, you may need to discover that what you thought you wanted is not bringing you the happiness you are seeking. Psychotherapy as I see it can assist you with letting go of old programming, patterns, and habits that no longer serve you so that you can transform your life. I make every effort to truly understand you in your uniqueness, by listening to the circumstances that shaped you, and by assisting you to find the source of inner knowledge within you; something you may not even know exists. I assess your individual issues and needs and then determine what combination of therapeutic tools would be the best fit for you. Some of these tools may include humanistic, cognitive-behavioral, gestalt, somatic, and transpersonal therapeutic approaches. I believe in change and that we all have an innate capacity to heal. I see one of my major responsibilities as a psychotherapist is to teach my clients to find the answers within themselves by sharing with them specific tools and concepts they need to do this. As a psychotherapist I see myself as facilitating your journey of unfolding. I see myself as having a small role within the larger context of your life. I make every effort to approach my work with each individual who seeks my counsel with humility and an open mind.
