About
Melanie Sivley, Licensed Clinical Social Worker
Whether you are looking for extra support and guidance through a challenging situation or are just ready to move in a new direction in your life, I am ready and excited to help you meet your goals. My therapeutic approach is to provide support and practical feedback to help clients effectively address personal life challenges. I integrate complementary methodologies and techniques to offer a highly personalized approach tailored to each client. With compassion and understanding, I work with each individual to help them build on their strengths and attain the personal growth they are committed to accomplishing.
I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, having received my Masters in Social Work from University of Illinois in 2009. During my internship at the Pavilion Hospital and utilizing my military experience, I wrote and developed material for a 12-week group to reduce PTSD symptoms in returning veterans. I was able to recruit and facilitate a successful group called Victory for Veterans with returned veterans.
After graduation I worked for Crosspoint Human Services as a SASS Specialist, an on-call crisis worker for children and adolescents experiencing severe psychiatric crises. During this time I also provided intensive, short-term counseling for children and adolescents along with their families.
As a therapist at Douglas County Mental Health Center, I worked with a wide range of clients for mental health issues including: depression, anxiety, adjustment disorders and clients with a dual diagnosis of mental health and substance abuse. I co-facilitated Thinking for a Change an integrated, cognitive behavior change program that includes cognitive restructuring, social skills development, and development of problem solving skills. I also facilitated an adolescent life skills training group focusing on a variety of topics including but not limited to family issues, anger, violence, conflict resolution and drugs and alcohol.
Before gaining my MSW, I worked at Crosspoint Human Services as a case manager, most notably with two other agencies counseling women with substance abuse, mental illness and domestic violence issues.
I treat a variety of issues, some of which are: substance abuse, depression, anxiety, post-traumatic stress disorder, relationship/couples therapy, parenting issues, work issues and co-dependency issues.
I use a wide range of therapeutic techniques. I individualize treatment according to my client's comfort level and needs. I frequently rely on standard cognitive behavioral techniques, twelve step programming and motivational interviewing in order to individualize treatment according to my client's comfort level and needs. I look forward to working with you to achieve your goals.
