If you're interested in being treated like cattle to slaughter, then by all means see Wyse and her factory. If however you are interested in a physician who behaves ethically and professionally, go somewhere else.

They have a very good professional reputation. The impression they give is that I'm under the care of an expert - the latest equipment, and records computerized. They followed up with me after my cataract surgery procedure. Dr. Wyse was careful to answer all the questions I had, but I could tell she was very busy, so it is best to write down your questions beforehand, because if you can't think of the next one, then she needs to be on to the next patient. They are available by phone or returned phone call if I think of any more questions I want answered. I pretty much get the appointment times I want, unless it is on her Wednesday surgery day.

There are no guarantees with cataract surgery, and indeed there was a problem with the first eye Dr. Wyse did - a distance implant that started out 20-20 the day after surgery, but during healing the implant shifted and it is now 20-30. During the few weeks after surgery I had to decide whether to get the second eye done with a distance implant, or a reading implant (so-called monovision). Assistant Karen Gallegos recommended against monovision (people have trouble adapting), but Dr. Wyse said adapting was not a problem. Her optometrist Dr. Martinson, after noting my 20-30 first eye, pointed out that I would likely need glasses all the time if I did monovision, and also mentioned that engineers like me (and her father) prefer precise vision, which I might not be able to get with monovision. She saved the day, because I went with a second distance implant that stayed at 20-20. This has turned out great because the brain takes the better of the two eyes. Now I'm glasses-free except for reading, and I love it! And the 20-30 first eye gives me sort of monovision at 20-24" (computer screens) anyway.

You should know that the actual procedure is brief and completely painless. Sort of like a dental checkup with an IV. A complete breeze, although I can imagine some people might freak out who don't like others poking into their eye (didn't bother me at all). Everyone at the surgery center was very friendly and professional, double-checking that they were doing the correct eye with the correct implant. My vision was 20-20 immediately (although as I said, the first eye deteriorated to 20-30 after 3-4 days). I was out on the dance floor 1 day after the second eye was done with no ill effects. I'm really grateful that something like this is available today - really a major quality of life improvement.
