About
Susannah Merrill-Bernath
Birth can be an event to be looked forward, an experience that you feel utterly safe and confident about- confident that you yourself can handle, whether or not you have access to medical pain relief.
Choosing a doula is one major step towards that peace of mind and comfort with birth. Doulas support women before, during and after labor, with education, holistic care, a strong personal connection and responsiveness to your emotional and physical needs. Although doctors and nurses tend to be in and out of the delivery room, leaving a mother and her partner to labor alone, a doula provides continuous care, from the time you decide you want her there, whether at home or in the hospital, until youre holding your baby in your arms.
Susannah Merrill-Bernath, the doula behind Anchor Birth Support, is following in the steps of the many traditional birth attendants who are dedicated to alleviating womens pain and fear, replacing those feelings with calm confidence and relaxation. A cheerfully engaging woman with a solid, soothing presence, Susannah is a fully trained and experienced professional devoted to nourishing your well-being and building a safe space with you, a foundation from which you can make confident choices and do the work of childbirth comfortably and easily the way you want to. Anchor Birth Support was founded on the belief that informed women will make the decisions that are right for them.
When you work with Anchor Birth Support, you have options. Susannah is skilled in nonmedical pain relief, such as position changes, aromatherapy, massage, rebozo and TENS unit use, water therapy and hypnobirthing. Whats more, she can provide information on what is happening in your body through pregnancy and birth, share up-to-date research on best practices and discuss interventions and their risks and benefits. You may need a guide through the beginning stages of breastfeeding, or reassurance that your birth is proceeding normally, both of which are very common even for women who have spent their pregnancy preparing for the arrival of their child.
