Spider Vein Treatment with Advanced Electrolysis

Charity Sullivan, Owner

Spider veins are dilated blood vessels which are closer to the skins surface. They can have a threadlike appearance (called telangiectasia) or a spider leg appearance (called spider nevus), and can be red or purple-blue in color. Spider veins can occur anywhere on the body, but the most common places are the legs and face. There is no clear cause, but a number of factors aggravate them, including pregnancy and hormonal changes, temperature changes, aging, heredity, obesity, smoking, and sunbathing. Spider veins are extremely common, and both men women can develop them as early as in their twenties.

The good news is that spider veins are not harmful. There are treatments available privately; one such is advanced electrolysis which is electrodessication using a Radio Frequency Direct Current.

Most people associate electrolysis with hair removal, but it can also be used for a range of minor skin blemishes, rosacea and spider or thread veins. For both hair growth and removal of spider veins, the heat generated by an electrical current can be used. The equipment used for thread veins is virtually the same as for hair removal, but the principle and technique is different.

An extremely thin sterilized disposable filament is used which is capable of producing a tiny electrical current therefore desiccating the thread veins. There is a small amount of discomfort, but it is not unbearable. The electrical current produces enough heat to cauterize or seal the veins, which prevents any more blood flow through them. Once sealed, the vein is effectively useless, and may be simply reabsorbed, or removed, by the body.

The treatment sessions typically last for up to one hour, and it is likely that more than one session will be required to ensure complete removal with the first session taking the longest. The removal is permanent and the treated veins will not reoccur once they have been treated. However, treatment will not prevent new spider veins from forming anywhere else, as it is a localized treatment specific to spider veins that have already formed. Following treatment, there may be some redness but this should disappear within ten days. The results are seen instantly.
