He was inducted into Phi Beta Kappa and Phi Kappa Phi honor fraternities while at FSU. Dr. Nothnagel was then accepted to the Pacific University College of Optometry in Forest Grove. Dr. Nothnagel received his doctorate degree in 1977. He graduated first in his class of 68 students and was a Beta Sigma Kappa honor student.
