John A Bragstad, LMFT

Real Help for your Marriage or your Life. I am one of 12% of therapists specifically trained (and supervised) in Marriage and Family Therapy. Over 80% of people I work with are couples or individuals seeking help for their relationship. Many are discouraged. There has been heartache or the long slow progression of growing apart. I offer direct and active feedback, principles you can use, researched information that can extend beyond our sessions. I am skilled in deepening communication, helping couples move out of gridlock to solve problems. I have solid experience in helping with infidelity, blended families and family business conflicts.

With individuals I am trained in cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), widely used and researched for the treatment of depression, anxiety, stress, relational problems, anger and prolonged sadness. I coach executives and directors to develop organizational responses to reactivity, change-back, sabotage and clarity of vision. I work with spiritual issues upon request.

I am conveniently located between Stillwater, White Bear Lake, Oakdale and Hudson, WI. I am about 1/2 hour from Forest Lake, North Oaks, Cottage Grove and Marine. I offer a peaceful and personal setting. 50 and 80 minute appointments. For more information please call or go to jbragstad.com. Welcome!

I would not be where I am today without John's help. He has counseled me through PTSD issues which were not only affecting me but my marriage and family. For someone who has serious trust issues, I found it very easy to trust John from the start. First, because he is incredibly gifted with his counseling skills and second because he has great passion for his work. He is compassionate and empathetic but is not afraid to push if he knows it will help. John has also gained my trust because there has never been a time that he did not return a phone call and occasionally was willing to meet with me outside his regular office hours when my trauma and anxiety was beyond what I could handle. John has been highly effective in helping me "get my life back" . He has also been highly effective in helping us keep our marriage together and healthy and has helped us to " blend our family" so that everyone feels accepted and loved.

When people ask me about my experience with John Bragstad, I humorously answer that he is a bit of an "absent minded professor" but to not let that fool you, as I believe he is brilliant. I have seen him both individually and also with my spouse. John is a good listener, gets to the heart of the matter, and is one of the kindest people I have ever met. His generousness and kindness is modeled though out our sessions, so that when we are at home, it spills over to our behavior and attitudes towards one another and towards ourselves.. He essentially teaches us to behave kinder and with empathy, which when you are in marriage counseling, that is really helpful. To me, he is also "tough" and asks the hard questions. I also learn a lot, literally, as he uses his white board at times to draw out behavior patterns which no therapist that I have seen has ever done. I can take a photo of the board and go home and study it if need be. I believe that if you are willing to open up, trust the process and do the work needed, John is extremely effective. Again, I seriously think he is gifted at what he does. He's a gem of a person and a gem of a therapist.
