This is a private practice of Addiction Counseling of Rev. Edward Reading, which also provides education and training. We practice under the name MATT TALBOT INSTITUTE FOR ADDICTION STUDIES (MTI). We believe that Addiction is a treatable disease, not a moral weakness. We treat the disease as a neuro-biological brain disease for which people can and do recover. Because of the fact that stigma is a major reason that people avoid treatment, we choose to NOT accept insurances, as that begins the paper-trail of electronic records of the addiction. We keep costs low, and on sliding scales. Fees are frequently equal to what would normally be the co-pay under an insurance policy. Dr. Reading has been in the profession for more than 50 years, and has taught at colleges and universities throughout New Jersey. While accepting young adult and adult clients, he has special experience in treating "professionals" such as medical, clergy, law enforcement, lawyers, educators, etc. In addition to Dr. Reading, counselors in training are also used to keep costs low. ServicesThe MATT TALBOT INSTITUTE FOR ADDICTION STUDIES provides individualized assessment and treatment for addictive disease and related problems. Family Counseling (including Significant Others) is also an important part of the primary patient's treatment. Independent Assessments and second opinions are also a sub-specialty. We do not prescribe medications at this office. Those needing Detox, Medication Assisted Treatment modalities or psychiatric medications are referred to specialists, while being able to remain in outpatient treatment with Dr. Reading at the MTI. Clients with low level co-occurring mental illness are accepted for treatment provided that the prescriber and Dr. Reading are working in a coordinated treatment plan. Family members can come for counseling even if the person with the substance use disorder is not ready for recovery. Addiction related Marriage/Family Counseling (eg. pre-marriage, pre-divorce, couples) is also available for families/couples where one or both members are in need of recovery or already in recovery.
