I trusted this vet for many years; first brought my dog as a young puppy to his practice in Oakdale until that practice was sold. When he became a part time vet in Selden, I continued to bring my dog for treatment, despite the travel time involved. What I got in return for my continued trust in his expertise and supposed commitment to caring and treating my dog, was total negligence in treatment, which not only shortened her life, but caused needless suffering. My dog exhibited signs of diabetes for which urine testing detected, and blood work was taken for definitive diagnosis. When I heard nothing regarding the results of the blood work, I called the office, only to be told by Dr.Coccari himself, that my dog did have diabetes, but not to worry, and make an appointment for the following week. This was on a Friday. On Sunday, my dog went into diabetic shock, and was rushed to emergency care at West Islip Veterinary Specialists, where she was close to death. I spent a fortune to save her life, which was totally preventable had Dr Coccari bothered to read the results of her blood work, indicating that her blood glucose levels were through the roof, and required immediate insulin administration. His negligence further compromised her health by causing permanent heart damage. Her diabetes was never effectively managed, and over the course of her next few remaining years, she lost almost half of her body weight. When I called the Selden practice following the emergency care, they were totally incompassionate and rude. The only thing worse than the lack of empathy of the veterinary practice was the fact that Dr Coccari never bothered to return my call or take responsibility for neglecting a dog that I entrusted to his care for over 10 years. This should have never happened, and I am shocked that he is still a so called vet.
