This animal hospital need to improve it's professionalism, customer service skills, and its integrity. On April 30, 2019 I called Fuerte Animal Hospital requesting a same day appointment for my Shiba Inu to receive a nail trimming, and a check of her ears due to her experiencing irritation. I was pleased to hear that they had an available appointment for 6:00 pm that evening, However once I arrived I was highly dissatisfied. I was greeted by the receptionist Sharie who has poor customer service skills and unwilling to answer any questions or concerns you may have about your animal in which you are entrusting them with. Once my dog was taken into the back to check her ears, they came back with an outrageous price of approximately 760 dollars. Once I reviewed the pricing I realized they had added "Recommendations" that we had not discussed prior to and that were not agreed upon. Once I went over the itemized list they had presented, and took out all of the unnecessary things that they took upon themselves to add, the price went down to 432 dollars which is still much too expensive for an ear cleaning and nail trimming, but I did not want my dog to be in pain so I paid it. After the initial evaluation Ms. Sharie insisted several times that I leave for 30 minutes to an hour while they clean her ears and trim her toe nails in the back. I asked Dr. Davis, why I was not allowed to go in the back with her, he responded "Our insurance does not cover the owners only the patient, so if people were to become nauseous or fall and hit their heads while in the back we could not cover it; therefore we do not allow people in the back unless they sign a waiver releasing all liability." I went ahead and waited in the car for approximately 45 minutes. Once I walked back in to the waiting room I could hear the sounds of nail clippings, my dog howling from exam room 3 and the sound of what seemed to be my 17 lb dog jumping off of the table, running and hitting the exam room door all while under a mild sedation. Immediately after, I heard the younger girl working that night scream "Oh my God!" in a concerned tone. Once the cleaning and nail trim was completed they brought my dog to me and never once mentioned any possible complications. Knowing I had already heard her howling in pain and jump off the table I checked her paws and noticed that her nails were jagged and one of her nails was clipped so low that they cut into her nail bed which could cause damage to her nerves and blood vessels. I made Dr. Davis aware of the fact that I knew he had clipped entirely too far into her nail bed and showed him her paw, his response was " WELL, SHE JUMPED, I remember clipping that one and she jumped." What he failed to mention was that she jumped as a result of him clipping her too low and that she jumped off the table while under sedation which could have been more harmful to her since she could barely stand without falling. While sitting in my car about to drive away, Dr. Davis then came to my car window apologizing and asking if I wanted pain medicine for my dog since she was clearly in pain. He also added that they were "trying to help me out by getting me an appointment for the day," as if it was somehow my fault that they had been incompetent in the mishandling of my animal . My issue is, they all knew what had taken place behind closed doors, but because they didn't think I heard it or was unaware, they were willing to let me take her home in pain because they thought I would never know about. Their web page states " The Team at Fuerte Animal Hospital is comprised of highly trained and experienced animal health professionals who have a genuine love for working with pets. Our staff treats every patient with the highest quality of medical care as well as a gentle touch," but it is quite the opposite.
