About Us

Our History: Dr Ed Becker conceived, designed and built The Animal Hospital from the ground up on over 22 acres of farm land in Guilderland, NY. The year was 1974, our country was in the worst recession since World War Two!

Our grounds are surprisingly secluded for being in the middle of suburbia and 3 minutes from Crossgates Mall. Clients often walk with their pets to the swan pond or sit and overlook the pasture. He chose this location as a pet-safe environment away from the hustle and bustle of traffic and noise.

Our building is unique in that it was planned to be warm, cozy, inviting and even home-like, yet be fitted with the absolute latest in current veterinary technology. The waiting area, complete with a brick fireplace, has a one way traffic flow around reception so our client care specialists canHospital old focus completely on your needs without crowding or congestion. This is now the standard in hospital design but was actually rare in its day. The 3 exam rooms are adjacent to reception, the laboratory and our pharmacy to make work flow efficient. Likewise, the treatment room is a central hub surrounded by triage, surgery, radiology/ultrasound imaging, the ward, doctors office, pharmacy and employee lounge. This was, of course, pre-computers, so our phone system also functioned as an intercom and we enjoyed a building-wide overhead sound system. Over the past 37 years, we have built 5 separate additions to our building to allow space for new equipment, instrumentation and technology. First we added a large storage room which allowed us to convert the existing storage room to a self contained isolation ward. We then constructed two more exam rooms, one for technician appointments and one byHospital new the rear door for consultations. As we added sophisticated laboratory instruments, we expanded the existing lab forward under the porch roof. Next came an expansion out the front of our building for a larger doctors office and staff lounge. Then we installed a full building automatic generator to keep us up and running when everyone else's lights are out. We turned our attention outside and built a 9,000 cubic foot one of a kind flight cage for our wildlife and endangered species patients. Last Fall, we completely renovated our reception area with four work stations, new cabinets and counters. We matched the color to the existing turn of the century roll top desk we have used for over 30 years. We are now working on complete renovation of our 5 exam rooms. We are replacing the laminate on our warm, non-stainless steel exam tables. This is much more difficult to build and maintain but our patients appreciate it over cold steel. As we progress, we constantly upgrade our infrastructure to accommodate the dozens of computers and computerized instruments and equipment we use every day. For pictures and much more information, please take a virtual hospital tour. We are proud of our tradition of home town values coupled with our passion to stay on the cutting edge of current veterinary technology.
