My training and background is primarily in substance abuse and working with individuals that suffer with both substance abuse and mental health issues (dual diagnosis) and the effects of that on their lives, as well as the lives of the people they care about most. My experience also includes working with children and families suffering from the effects of living with parents or partners with these issues. I have recently returned from southern Maryland where I ran a small mental health clinic for children and adolescents experiencing symptoms of ADHD, depression and anxiety, bipolar disorder, and conduct disorders. Often these children came from families where there were issues of domestic violence, difficult divorce situations, and/or abuse.

MY APPROACH TO TREATMENT I see you as the expert on your life and view therapy as a collaborative process, where you teach me what it is like to be you. We journey on a path together to define your treatment goals and explore the issues that are of concern to you. In a safe and supportive environment you share the events in your life and difficulties you may be having with feeling good; I make observations, provide education, and share my interpretations of your experiences to help elicit change.
