Dr. Speare is a rare find, especially in Virginia, MN. I've looked for psychologists in much larger cities and I've never found anyone else as well trained, as up to date, and as excited about the work they do! Dr. Speare is focused on helping you, as an individual, learn how to deal with life better so that you feel better. Although his general approach is to give people the tools they need so they can help themselves, and seeing patients for a relatively short period of time, he understands that some people need to move at a slower pace for whatever reason (slow at building trust, multiple issues to address, etc.) He is perceptive, analytical, nonjudgmental, and compassionate. I am comfortable seeing him, even though working on past traumas and difficult times in my life isn't exactly a pleasant thing to do. But I have faith that, with work and time, I'll be able to make some real progess with Dr. Speare and improve the quality of my life. I first saw Dr. Speare at a time in my life that I had little hope. I still struggle and am still dealing with many challenges, but I now have more hope than before and that's a big change. Dr. Speare's office is very easy to locate and I've never felt uncomfortable walking into the office - it's in a private setting. I would not hesitate to recommend Dr. Speare to a friend or family member looking for a psychologist.
