I worked with Dr. O'Connell while I was going through a complex divorce and I found her to be a vital lifeline during that difficult process. She was a great resource for me and supported me through some very critical moments that would have been quite difficult to endure without her. I found her to be quite knowledgable and compassionate and this combination allowed me to negotiate the more difficult twists and turns of the divorce process. She brought a great skill set to the table, and had a depth of understanding and insight. She helped me understand and work through a number of difficut divorce moments, and she was able to effectively communicate my issues and needs to the other professionals involved in the divorce. I would strongly recommend her. She is very supportive, highly educated, keeps up with current research and is a careful and insightful thinker.

Dr. O'Connell was recommended by my ex' lawyer to have both of us evaluated to see who was telling the truth. My ex accused me of some despicable acts against my daughters. Although she was clinically depressed and diagnosed as such, and although she introduced those accusations after several other attempts to get the girls (so it was obvious she was trying new lies every hearing to see what works), Linda gave the worst report any professional could give. I'm not gonna say she is against men just from my lone experience but she has some serious problems herself.

First, she took 8 months to complete the evaluation that usually takes other professionals 60 days. She charged $10,000 when a typical cost is $2,500-$5,000. I was warned against her by my lawyer but I was an idiot for thinking that my case was straightforward and she will see ex' lies. Forget about my opinion, here are some facts from her report:

1. She said that I said that my ex "never lies" and thus used that as an evidence that I was lying about everything and my ex was telling the truth. Now, even if I believed my ex never lied, why the heck would I tell her that when i know the consequences?? Why do I I have to pay $10,000 to someone to clear my name if I was willing to admit that I was lying??

2. She took my ex' statement and stated it as a verified fact. She said that I traveled months at a time away from family when in fact she did ask me and I showed her my passport stamped once a year for a week trip, during which I have always taken my ex with me!!

3. In a 40 page report evaluating our mental state, and 8 months of interviewing, she spent only 10 minutes talking to the therapist that diagnosed my ex with PTSD which was the result of sexual and physical abuse at childhood (two of my ex' four sisters were runaways and turned prostitutes). You'd think she would jump on that psychologist and get more information after my ex saw her for two straight years.

4. She ignored to mention that my ex filed six DCFS cases against me within six months and opened two police investigations and all came back unfounded and were dismissed.

She recommended that since I lie and my ex never lied then it was most likely that I did everything the ex accused me of doing. So she suggested that I go through counseling for six months and get reevaluated every three months after that.

The best thing I did in my entire life is ask the court to assign a neutral professional to reevaluate me. His name is Mark Brezinger, a Ph.D. in psychology and 19 years of experience leading cook county in child abuse. He dismissed her report as of a person with irrelevant experience in child abuse in custody cases. After extensive psychological written and spoken tests and interviews he concluded in less than a month that I was of no threat to anyone around me, and I was cleared in court.

Dr. O'Connell is very unprofessional, doesn't respond promptly, very slow, doesn't give you a good picture of when she would be done, and most importantly not good at all in driving up to conclusions. You read her logic and think: really??

Save your money and get a real professional. She has got no clue, at least in child abuse and child custody battle cases.

P.S. watch out. In the contract she makes you sign she reserves the right to hire a lawyer against you with your own money. She threatened with that option when my lawyer was sick of her not responding and taking too long so she tried to ask the judge to issue her a deadline. Dr. O'Connell then told me that if my lawyer calls one more time she would hire a lawyer against me and make me pay for legal fees as per her contract. She said she added that phrase after getting in trouble with another client (so there was at least one other person that was t happy with her).
