I am a knowledgeable, compassionate, and skilled labor assistant. I received my training through the Childbirth and Postpartum Professional Association (CAPPA) Labor Doula Program in April 2009. I completed my requirements for certification in August 2010, and am awaiting CLD (Certified Labor Doula) accreditation. I earned a Bachelor of Arts from Illinois State University in 1995 with a focus in Women's Studies, Anthropology, Sociology, and Philosophy. I also have several years experience as a volunteer rape crisis counselor, drug abuse counselor, and breastfeeding support counselor.
You will receive prenatal care from me that includes, but is not limited to, childbirth education, nutrition counseling, counseling to face any possible fears you may have, and breastfeeding preparation if you wish to breastfeed your child.
My goal for my clients in labor is to help them to relax, be knowledgeable about the birth process, face their fears, and achieve their personal wishes, whether it is for a natural birth, or for a medically managed birth. I will support you whether you wish to labor in the bed, on the floor, outside, or in a birth tub. I do not put my personal values on your birth. I offer information on the risks and benefits of every type of medical intervention, and on every birth setting that is available to you - home, birth center, hospital. I am experienced in supporting women in both home and hospital.
