Zero stars. If you have a diagnosis when you are sent here, you have an advantage. If you are looking for a comprehensive diagnosis, run, don't walk, to another hospital. They are truly a teaching hospital and the multiple "specialists" that I have been to see have made me feel completely insignificant. You feel like you are intruding on their precious time and they have something better to do. The "students" are usually eager but can sometimes take on the same attitude of their teacher (the specialist) and of course you will never see the same one twice so every appointment requires you to start over. You would hope there were notes from your previous visits but you have to go over EVERYTHING again, sometimes having to give them results they should be telling you. If they do not have a simple explanation, they immediately push you off on another service or specialist and again, you are starting over & waiting for months to get an appointment with the next in line. If you are "lucky" enough to get essentially pushed back to a previous specialist/Doctor, you will be treated worse than before - again feeling that you are back to waste their time yet again.
The nurses. especially surgical, & administrative staff have been wonderful but they should not have to make up for the arrogant and lazy specialists who have no follow-thru.
Often, the right hand does not know what the left is doing. I repeatedly have had the same experience with the lab. I've been sent for a blood draw in the morning and told by the phlebotomists, more than once, that "oh, we will see you back because they never ask for enough blood the first time" and they are right. I've also done procedures (sorry, urine collections) that I've watched them throw away because they cannot locate an order in the system and then I'm left to explain it to the doctors as they ask me why this happened. Um, you tell me. Doesn't help their attitude towards you.
I would like to say this is a one time occurrence but sadly, it's not. I have been subjected to all of this over a span of two years and I'm still chasing my tale waiting for someone to follow thru on their "promises". I have spoken with administrators who often use "we are updating our systems so we are sorry" or "we are looking into this and we will get back to you" with no response. I have gone thru the patient advocate also with no response or follow up. When I see commercials touting the spectacular services of this "renowned" medical establishment, I want to scream. Needless to say, I intend to start over again but with a different hospital system.
If you are not in the state of mind or body to be your own patient advocate and are stuck with this as your hospital, make sure to have a friend or family member with a healthy sense of patience and fortitude to be able to stand up for you. A background in medical terms and procedures will help also since you will be expected to explain their actions, inactions, systems, etc to them instead of the way it is suppose to be - them helping you.
Thank God I have insurance, I cannot fathom what I would have endured without.
