I used to swear by Mercy Hospital, in the days before Dignity took over. Once Dignity took over everything started to fall apart. Good Doctors and Surgeons were run out. Health Care became secondary to the Bottom Line. The billing department cannot even bill the right insurance. My most recent stay involved 3 trips to the ER and admitted 2 times. I went in with a broken toe and ended up with an Infection that required 12 weeks of IV antibiotics. The first trip to the ER was a long wait, with a bleeding wound on the broken toe, only to be discharged with a loose wrapped bandage and no crutches. By the time I got to the parking lot I was bleeding profusely. Went back into the ER and they told me to take a seat while the got the process started over again. A week later I was back in the ER with an infection that wound care wanted looked into. Was admitted overnight on IV antibiotics and released the next day. 2 Weeks later Wound Care Sent me back once again this time admitted for a week, with 12 weeks of IV antibiotics to be administered by my wife with a weekly check by home care nurse. Here it is almost a year later, I get a bill in the mail for roughly $1,000.00. Because the VA denied payment. When I called I was told oh this is for some other doctor. And that was it. Now 3 weeks later I get a FINAL NOTICE to pay the amount in full. Called again and found out it was for the Hospital Stay last year, and that VA wouldn't pay the last day, because of some technicality. Which I might have understood if I had ever used the VA. The Hospital Staff Screwed up and was billing the VA because they have no idea about Veteran Insurance. I have always used TRI CARE not the VA, because of the problems with the VA and getting bills paid. Tri Care would have had this handled with no problem. So now I face a large bill, that I should not have to pay because I never told them I was covered by the VA. I wish Dignity would TRAIN their billing department about the Difference between VA=TRIWEST, and TRI CARE Western Region. We won't talk about how the Doctors have to bill separately because they are not considered Hospital Employees. So you will always get billed by the Hospital and by VIrtuity (Doctors). I am currently going to Wound Care appointments once a week, I have seen bills for the Hospital where they are billing insurance over $1000.00 a week, and an additional bill for the Doctor thru Vituity. The wound care is in a separate building from the hospital Every time I go in I see at least 4 different people. When I was with Physicians Wound Care there was the Doctor and one nurse. Not a whole passel of people that my insurance has to pay now. This is ridiculous. And you wonder why so many people are wanting HEALTH CARE REFORM, quit making everything about the bottom line, quit trying to fleece the insurance companies. Pay more attention to patient needs than Hospital Needs, and Start providing Quality Medical Care.
Terrible, terrible ER service. Brought my son to the ER after he was thrown off a bicycle at high speeds. He was thrown about 10 feet, onto rocks and hard dirt. He was badly cut with large bleeding abrasions. He could not move his right arm. His right shoulder was badly swollen. His right hand was numb. His left elbow was bleeding, and his left hand was going numb. His knee was badly bruised, swollen and bleeding. He had a severe headache and neck pains. He could badly walk or move.
When we arrived at the ER, it was 25% full. A woman behind a security glass window took our information, and told us to take a seat. No one looked at or spoke to my son for 2 hours. He just sat there bleeding on their chair, in terrible pain. I repeatedly asked when will someone look at him, and was told "soon". A person then wheelchaired him with his bleeding wounds filled with dirt, into X-rays. He was brought back to the ER, and 3 hours later he was wheelchaired with absolutely nothing having been done for his wounds or pains, to see a doctor. 30 minutes later the doctor appeared, only to send him back to Xrays because they didn't take all the right ones to begin with. 45 minutes later the doctor examined him again. He was treated, and discharged. All of this took approximately 7 hours. My son could have had internal bleeding, a concussion, or any number of life threatening internal injuries. Mercy General let him sit there bleeding with open wounds filled with dirt, for 2 hours without even looking at him, and with the waiting room only 25% full. Never, ever go to this place, if you care anything about yourself or the person you are bringing for treatment.
