I brought my dog in for a tooth cleaning to Rebecca Latham.

They ran tests prior, at one point telling me (Dr. Winter) the results were very bad and she had a (possibly) cancerous blood condition. She then reasoned to herself aloud something about the gauge of the needle and the red blood cells possibly coagulating in the needle (or something, I'm not sure) so the test was redone and the dog was apparently fine.

So I bring her in for the cleaning at 8am, and Latham calls and says she noticed some possible senility, and did I want to proceed? I don't understand how senility/old age and the cleaning are related, so I said yes, please clean her teeth.

I am less than a mile away at work on Arrow Rd, and I call to see how the dog is doing. The staff seemed oddly nervous, but didn't indicate anything was amiss. Latham went home around noon to care for a baby she had, and left the place to Dr. Harris, whom I had (and still have) never met. They said my dog had awakened and had gone out to the bathroom and would recover for the afternoon.

I go to pick her up at 5:30 as agreed. Megan the tech was very nervous/agitated, but again wouldn't say anything was wrong. Harris walked out, passed me in the waiting room, and closed his office door. A girl carries my dog out. She has a white tongue hanging out, eyes open but fluttering, and making noises. I didn't know, but she was by this time in a full coma. This is how they released her to me, saying she would be fine, but if not, to call Latham at home. The girl carries the dog and helps place her on the car seat, at which point the dog nearly slides off the seat and out of the car. She apologized for the dog hair all over the seat.

I ask why my dog looks like this, and she says didn't they speak to you already? Yes they had, but said she was fine.

So I try and nurse her, expecting her to become conscious. She urinated all over me as I carry her into the house. She lies on the floor while I call Latham at home. Latham checks her records, calls me back obviously upset, and says the dog is in a coma, her respiratory system is collapsing, there's nothing to be done, she's dying, but at least she isn't in pain, as she is unconscious. My only option is the 24 hr vet an hour away in Savannah. The breathing finally slows until she dies in a death shudder in my arms.

The next day, Latham cries again, says she's "very sorry" and "it will be addressed" but elaborates no further. I get a refund just for pills she could never have taken, and I don't get refunded for botched procedure with the deadly anesthesia.

My dog is cremated via Colorado's office, as I won't let Latham, Harris, and their incompetent staff touch even the dead body of my dog. Dr. Colorado tells me no dog leaves her hospital if it cannot walk.

Pooh deserved so much better, and I have to live with the guilt and anger of trusting the clown show at Heritage Animal Hospital.
