I was hoping to get some relief for my back pain but instead I was treated poorly and with discontent. Speirs Chiropractors makes you fill out a twelve-page packet for your initial assessment which I found a little excessive but if it supported my care then I figured I would. I showed up to the office 20 minutes early with all of my packet filled out. I approached the desk and told them of my appointment time, who I was and handed them the twelve-page packet. They asked for my insurance card and drivers licenses. I informed them I was not paying with insurance so I assumed that they did not require a copy of my drivers license as well. They rudely, informed me that they still needed a copy of my driver’s license. I inquired as to why and the first explanation was for insurance purposes. I again, informed them I would be paying for the treatment myself and the nurse didn’t address me but the secretary that, “It was company policy.” I was also told to get my records they wanted to see a copy of my license in my file. I informed them I would be happy to show my ID on every visit, as well as, if I needed to get my records. I preferred not to give them a copy as there seemed to be no purpose. I took my seat and was called back up to give a copy of my driver’s license. I inquired again to why and I was told company policy and if didn’t like it, I could leave. I was never rude to them but their demeanor and posturing felt very hostile to me. It is a shame they would turn away business because of an irrelevant policy that serves no purpose. In an age of Personally Identifiable Information (PII) and Protected Health Information (PHI) being so sensitive, as identity theft is so prevalent. Why a business wouldn’t understand people’s concern about giving up PII and PHI for “no reason” but “company policy” is beyond me. It’s not only that they didn’t understand but treated me so poorly because I wanted to know why they needed the sensitive information. If there would have been a valid reason to give up my license, like for insurance purposes, I would have given it up, no problem. Clearly, they didn’t want or need my business and if they were so apt to treat me like that over a driver’s license, I would hate to see how they treat people under their care. There are plenty of other chiropractors in Hattiesburg. I would definitely go to one of them first and be wary of Speirs Chiropractic.
